Job Summary

New Hanover Medical Group Myrtle Grove Office in Wilmington, NC is actively seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join their team. The Nurse Practitioner will function in a primary care setting as a member of the outpatient behavioral health collaborative care team.

Essential Functions

  • Performs initial and periodic medical history, physical examinations, and daily assessments

  • Prescribe medications following the clinic’s policy, formulary and relevant regulations of the State

  • Perform patient histories and physicals, risk factor assessment, ordering of therapeutic and diagnostic tests; and attend to consultations and appointments

  • Determines treatment plan for patient

  • Orders and interprets diagnostic testing

  • Consult with physicians on cases that are beyond the scope of qualification of PMHNP

  • Records findings of examinations, assessments and plan of care

  • Formulate, execute and review healthcare education delivered to patients and families for diseases prevention

  • Ensure smooth communication with other health professionals for effective delivering of clinic service to patients

  • Provide consultation to the clinic’s nursing and medical staff for improvement in their work performance, which enhances overall quality service delivery of the clinic

  • Documents all patient encounters, records observations, interventions, and actions in a medically appropriate manner on the patient's medical record

  • Acts as a patient advocate for the population served

  • Attends, participates and contributes to group/practice meetings and development of policies and procedures when requested

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Masters Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required

  • License to practice as a Registered Nurse required

  • PMHNP-BC required

  • 3 years of experience preferred

Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the state one works

  • Must have or be eligible for a DEA license

  • Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing required

  • BLS for Healthcare Provider from AHA required with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice

Physical Requirements

Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Must speak English fluently and in understandable terms. Must possess intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and finger dexterity. Must have the ability to react and perform in stressful situations.
