Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Purpose of the Position:
Provide quick response manufacturing support triggered by Operations feedback as well as product quality data. Overall mission is to optimize the Safety, Product Selects and Equipment Utilization associated with the manufacturing of Optical Fiber.
Primary Responsibilities :
Help department achieve Safety and Lean goals
Serve as an SME in specific technical areas to minimize engineering production support requirements
Work with support groups and production teams to coordinate and direct equipment start-up, repair, troubleshooting, and process changes
Support Preventive Maintenance activities
Provide first, second and third level troubleshooting of equipment/process issues. Oversee and direct Trades on repairs as necessary.
Maintain plant documentation to support current equipment configurations and practices
Receive training in new processes/equipment and/or procedure changes from engineering.
Provide technical training for associates
Education & Experience :
Two year electrical/mechanical technical degree preferred
(Will consider experienced candidates with demonstrated skills): No Degree & 10+ years of work experience // 2 year degree & 5+ years of work experience // 4 year degree & 3+ years of experience.
Required Skills :
Good process and equipment troubleshooting skills
Mechanically and Electrically inclined (aptitude for both)
Familiar with safety protocols associated with Lock Out/Tag Out, general shop practices, OSHA guidelines, etc.
Ability to handle/prioritize multiple tasks as necessary
Good written and verbal communication skills (detailed oriented)
Ability to train effectively
• PC proficient (Excel, Word, SharePoint, Passdown)
Willing to act as a motivator and role model
Controlled response in emergency situations
Desired Skills :
Capable of using Diagnostic equipment
Basic understanding of PLC
PC – Data Analysis (PI, etc.)
Respirator qualified or willingness to certify
Hours of Work/Schedule/Flex Time :
Mon – Fri 8 hrs/day (Periodic OT/Weekend work will be required) On-call support every 6-8 weeks
