Under the general supervision of a section supervisor, the medical laboratory technician performs all laboratory procedures in a prompt, accurate, and reliable manner according to established hospital and departmentalpolicies and procedures. Obtains blood samples from the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in a hospital setting. As part of the job description of all employees of the Onslow County Hospital Authority, the employee may be directed to render services within the scope of his/her job description to an affiliate of the Onslow County Hospital Authority pursuant to an arrangement between the two entities. In such instances, the employee will be acting within the scope of his/her employment by the Authority, as an employee whose services have been leased to the affiliated entity.
Associate in Science degree in medical laboratory science.
Experience (over 2 years) preferred
ASCP certification as a medical laboratory technician or eligible preferred
Mathematical, computer, reasoning, and communication skills at the college level (2 years)
Customer relation skills, with the attitude and demeanor consistent with the delivery of excellent customer service
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Medium work of lifting up to 30 pounds and/or carrying objects weighing up to 20 pounds
Responsible for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects
Frequent contact with water (frequent hand washing and cleaning)
Sufficient noise and interruptions to cause distraction and stress
Hazardous working conditions in which employee is exposed to definite risk of bodily injury through contact with moving instrumentation, chemicals, and/or body fluids
