Federal Staffing Resources General Surgeon -potential* in Cherry Point, North Carolina

FSR (Federal Staffing Resources) is seeking General Surgeon candiates for a future potential opening at Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point located north of Jacksonville, North Carolina.

This is a civilian position providing services within the extensive military medical system, which provides services to active duty service members, military retirees, and their families. Civilian and military personnel work together in the hospitals and clinics. As a civilian healthcare provider, you will have a dedicated FSR Program Manager supporting you in addition to an office providing administrative support.

Clinical activity will be a function of the overall demand for General Surgeon services. Routine workload is scheduled by the treatment facility. The HCW shall have full responsibility for maintenance and delivery of comprehensive applicable General Surgeon services within the personnel and equipment capabilities of the facility, and for the quality and timeliness of record preparation and reports indicated to document care and procedures provided.

-Examine patients to identify the need for operations, to estimate risks to patients and select the optimal surgical procedures(s).

-Communicate with consultants as appropriate.

-Schedule surgical time with operating room.

-Check instruments, equipment and surgical setup to make sure those antiseptic and aseptic methods have been followed.

-Instruct other medical, nursing and associated staff regarding the preparation of patients, instrument, and equipment requirements.

-Prescribe post-operative care and observe, investigate and manage the patients’ progress and care.

-Prepare records of operations performed in accordance with the command policies on medical records and surgical care.

-Maintain a level of productivity comparable with that of other individuals performing similar services.

-Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities.

-Perform efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events. Anticipate potential problems/emergencies and make appropriate interventions.

-Apply an awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and strive to manage situations in a reduced risk manner.

-Maintain an awareness of responsibility and accountability for own professional practice.

-Board Certification in General Surgery (American College of Surgeons or American College of Osteopathic Surgeons)

-Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

-Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the past 5 three years as a General Surgeon
